And no, I am not saying that rape and the devaluing of women is something exclusive to black folks — it happens in all racial communities. But at some point, as black people, we have to admit the undeniable: We have a serious problem."
This article is hitting too close to home, especially the first two points the author makes in the above quote, but I am glad that someone is finally talking about it. It is deeply unfortunate that the circumstances - a New York Times article about a community’s reaction to a monstrous gang rape of a child and the men who committed the crime - were the only means of addressing this troubling issue of “community” over prosecution.
